Psychologist Serena Expat

Hi, I'm Serena

Psychologist in Amsterdam

I am an Italian professional who decided to start her career in Amsterdam in 2019. I specialise in helping adults who are going through difficult times related to anxiety, depression, couple crises, and work and life transitions.

I graduated in Work and Organisational Psychology with honors (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Turin in 2014. This academic path allowed me to acquire specific skills to understand the dynamics and challenges that people face both in the workplace and in human relationships in the private dimension. In addition, the one-year training internship at the Gestalt Psychotherapy School and the subsequent passing of the State Exam for psychologists gave me the tools to help people manage their psychological and emotional problems. This allowed me to develop a holistic vision of the human being, considering the various aspects that characterise it, both personally and professionally.

In 2023, I expanded my toolkit by training as a hypnotherapist at the OMNI Hypnotherapy School in Amsterdam. Hypnotherapy is a technique that allows me to assist my clients in resolving problems by acting on the root of the problem, rather than just the symptoms. Through hypnosis practice, I help my clients overcome various types of difficulties, working on the underlying cause and promoting mental and emotional improvement.

Approach and Philosophy

My attention is focused on my clients’ needs and their ability to develop the internal resources necessary to face life’s challenges and improve their psychological and emotional well-being.

My mission is to create a trusting and actively listening environment, where the client feels comfortable and can freely open up about their problems. To achieve this goal, I use the Gestalt therapy approach, a method that integrates emotional, physical, and psychological aspects. I work together with my clients to create a co-constructed path that takes into account the goals they want to achieve and their specific needs.

My personal experiences have helped me better understand the difficulties that my clients are going through. I have had to face complex and painful experiences, such as the loss of both parents in childhood and depression in adulthood.

I have undergone a personal growth journey using Ayahuasca in specialised centres and have undergone a 2-year psychotherapeutic process with a psychotherapist. These experiences have allowed me to develop a high level of empathy and to connect with my clients on a deep level.

In my practice, I use conversational therapy integrated with creative exercises and meditation techniques to promote relaxation and stimulate the imaginative process. These tools are very useful for improving the quality of life of my clients and helping them overcome the challenges that life presents to them.

During individual and couples therapy sessions, I also use the techniques of the Gestalt therapy approach, such as repressive, expressive, and integrative techniques. These techniques help clients understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, identifying the ways in which these elements influence each other.

Furthermore, I also utilise coaching techniques, which are valuable in assisting clients to achieve their goals in a timely manner. These techniques are the power of writing and exercises to be completed at home. During the initial session, we will work together to explore your needs and select the most suitable therapeutic tools for you. This will establish a foundation for the co-constructed therapy process, enabling you to take greater responsibility for your psychological well-being.

The therapeutic paths I typically offer usually last a minimum of 8 sessions and a maximum of 24 sessions, with a total duration not exceeding 6 months. However, each therapeutic relationship is unique and may require a different timeframe for completion. This depends on your specific needs and your individual journey of personal growth.

My therapy philosophy is rooted in understanding the client as a unique and whole individual, possessing internal resources to overcome life’s challenges. My role is to provide a safe environment and therapeutic support, empowering you to cultivate greater self-awareness of yourself, your emotions, and your thoughts, ultimately finding your path towards psychological well-being.
